Improved public transport on the way for the Gold Coast

By Greg Bell

Public transport in the Gold Coast is soon to improve with the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the horizon.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) recently applauded the efforts of the state government in making sure that Stage 2 of the Gold Coast Light Rail System goes ahead.

The Gold Coast is already recognised as an international tourist destination, and world-class public transport facilities will only cement this perception.

This is great news for investors looking to buy commercial property on the Gold Coast, as the improvements will likely attract more tourism and consequently business to the area.

What does this mean for the Gold Coast?

According to CCIQ Director of Advocacy Nick Behrens, the Gold Coast small business community has been stressing the significance of a rail system upgrade for some time, as it provides a convenient connection between the heavy and light lines.

"The Gold Coast light rail system as it currently stands will leave the Gold Coast region unable to meet the demands of growing tourism, swelling population and a rapidly expanding economy," he said.

A more effective public transport system will improve the quality of living and possibly attract more residents, making the choice to buy commercial property on the Gold Coast an easier one.

"Passenger transport is critical to the Gold Coast's continuing economic growth and has a crucial role in determining a positive visitor experience to one of Australia's finest jewels," he said.

Mr Behrens asserts that having the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast offers a great chance to improve the city's infrastructure, which Australians can be proud of for years to come.

"It is very pleasing that the State Government has recognised the pressing need for an extension in passenger transport on the Gold Coast," he said.

What about commercial property for sale on the Gold Coast?

An improved public transport system is likely just the tip of the iceberg for infrastructure improvements in the Gold Coast prior to the Commonwealth Games.

"The State and Commonwealth Governments have a one-off opportunity to deliver an asset that will meet the ongoing needs of the Gold Coast community for decades to come," he said.

This will almost certainly have a positive effect on commercial property for sale on the Gold Coast and the regional economy, as existing structures become more affordable with increased projects.

As Mr Behrens noted, it's not just about ensuring our public transport system is up to scratch for the Commonwealth Games, but also for the Gold Coast' s future.
